You’ve booked your tour – but how do you actually get to the gorge? This guide explains how to get to each of our tours from Salzburg city, describes the meeting point and gives tips on parking, public transport and travel time. That way you’ll arrive on time and relaxed before the tour.
General travel tips
- Be at the meeting point 15 minutes before the tour starts – the welcome, briefing and getting into your gear all take time
- Allow extra time for traffic: especially in July/August, the main roads out of Salzburg can get slow
- Ideally, team up and car-share – parking at the meeting points is often limited
- We’ll send you the exact meeting point by email or WhatsApp after you book – the GPS coordinates make it easy
Getting to each tour
Canyoning Almbachklamm – Tennengau
The Almbachklamm is near Hallein/Adnet in the Tennengau, about 20 km south of Salzburg city. From the city centre, it’s best to take the A10 Tauern motorway south and exit at Hallein.
- Driving time from Salzburg city: approx. 20–30 minutes
- Parking: available right at the meeting point (limited)
- Public transport: possible by bus, but not very convenient – car recommended
Canyoning Strubklamm – Salzkammergut (Ebenau/Faistenau)
The Strubklamm is near Ebenau, between Faistenau and Tiefbrunnau in the Salzburg part of the Salzkammergut. From Salzburg city, drive via Hof bei Salzburg and Fuschl am See.
- Driving time from Salzburg city: approx. 35–45 minutes
- Parking: free at the meeting point
- Recommended: combine the tour with a day out in the Salzkammergut (Fuschlsee and Wolfgangsee are nearby)
Canyoning Gimbach Kaskaden – Upper Austria (Attersee)
The Gimbach Kaskaden are in Upper Austria in the Attersee region, about 1–1.5 hours east of Salzburg. Take the A1 West motorway towards Vienna, then continue to the Attersee.
- Driving time from Salzburg city: approx. 1:00–1:30 h
- Recommended: combine with a weekend stay in the region
- Getting there: car strongly recommended, public transport is difficult
Canyoning Grabenbach (Jabron) – Bad Ischl
The Grabenbach (Jabron) near Bad Ischl is offered as a private tour – we’ll arrange the exact meeting point with you individually when we confirm your booking.
Canyoning Friuli (multi-day tour, northern Italy)
For the Friuli multi-day tour, participants travel independently to the agreed accommodation in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The drive from Salzburg takes approx. 4 hours via the Tauern motorway and Italy.
- Recommended: arrive the day before and stay overnight at the accommodation
- Car-sharing: we can coordinate this on request
- Bed and breakfast: paid directly to the accommodation (double room approx. €80–90 per night)
Canyoning Ticino (multi-day tour, southern Switzerland)
The Ticino tour starts right in the canton of Ticino – the journey from Salzburg takes approx. 5–6 hours depending on the accommodation. You’ll receive full details with your booking confirmation.
What if you don’t have a car?
For the Almbachklamm and Strubklamm, we’ll try to put you in touch with other participants for car-sharing if needed. Just let us know when you book. For the multi-day tours to Friuli and Ticino, we definitely recommend car-sharing or a hire car – travelling by train is possible, but very inconvenient.
What to bring? A short checklist
- Swimming trunks or swimsuit (keep them on for the tour)
- Towel + dry change of clothes for after the tour
- You don’t need shoes: we provide canyoning shoes and neoprene socks
- Sun cream + sunglasses (with strap) for the approach hike
- Water bottle
- A small snack for after the tour (you’re guaranteed to be hungry)
- Cash or card for tips or spontaneous extras
- DON’T bring: valuables, jewellery or smartwatches into the gorge – everything stays safe in the car

Frequently asked questions
Where exactly is the meeting point?
We'll email you the exact meeting point (address + GPS coordinates) after confirming your booking. We don't publish the meeting point because it varies depending on the tour and start time.
What if I'm late?
Please call us in good time if you're running late. For short delays (5–10 minutes) we're happy to wait. Anything longer gets tricky, because other participants are doing the tour with you – in the worst case, we'll have to start without you.
Where do I leave my things during the tour?
Anything you don't need for the tour stays in the car. We recommend not bringing any valuables, as the car is usually parked in an accessible hikers' car park.
Are there changing rooms at the meeting point?
Most meeting points have no proper changing rooms – we get changed at the car (swimwear underneath, clothes on top for the approach). Some spots have toilets – we'll let you know when we confirm the meeting point.
Can I go straight on to other activities after the tour?
Of course. But allow a 1-hour buffer between the end of the tour and your next plans – to get changed, recover a bit and get back to Salzburg. Popular options are a stroll around Salzburg, a swim in the Fuschlsee/Wolfgangsee or lunch by the lake.
