You've booked your tour – but how do you actually get to the gorge? This guide explains, for each of our tours, how to get there from Salzburg city, describes the meeting point and gives tips on parking, public transport and travel time. So you arrive on time and relaxed before the tour.
General travel tips
- Be at the meeting point 15 minutes before the tour starts – the welcome, briefing and getting into your gear all take time
- Allow a traffic buffer: especially in July/August, Salzburg's arterial roads can get sluggish
- Carpool if you can – parking at the meeting points is often limited
- You'll receive the exact meeting point after booking by email or WhatsApp – the GPS coordinates make it easy
Directions to the individual tours
Canyoning Almbachklamm – Tennengau
The Almbachklamm is located near Hallein/Adnet in the Tennengau, about 20 km south of Salzburg city. From the city centre, take the A10 Tauern motorway southbound, exit Hallein.
- Drive time from Salzburg city: approx. 20–30 minutes
- Parking: available right at the meeting point (limited)
- Public transport: possible by bus, but not very convenient – car recommended
Canyoning Strubklamm – Salzkammergut (Ebenau/Faistenau)
The Strubklamm lies near Ebenau, between Faistenau and Tiefbrunnau in Salzburg's Salzkammergut. Travel from Salzburg city via Hof bei Salzburg and Fuschl am See.
- Drive time from Salzburg city: approx. 35–45 minutes
- Parking: free at the meeting point
- Recommended: combine the tour with a day trip through the Salzkammergut (Lake Fuschl and Lake Wolfgang are nearby)
Canyoning Gimbach Kaskaden – Upper Austria (Attersee)
The Gimbach Kaskaden are located in Upper Austria in the Attersee region, about 1–1.5 hours east of Salzburg. Travel via the A1 west motorway towards Vienna, then on to the Attersee.
- Drive time from Salzburg city: approx. 1:00–1:30 h
- Recommended: combine with a weekend stay in the region
- Getting there: car clearly recommended, public transport difficult
Canyoning Grabenbach (Jabron) – Bad Ischl
The Grabenbach (Jabron) near Bad Ischl is offered as a private tour – we arrange the exact meeting point individually with the booking confirmation.
Canyoning Friuli (multi-day trip, northern Italy)
For the Friuli multi-day trip, participants travel individually to the agreed base in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Drive time from Salzburg is around 4 hours via the Tauern motorway and Italy.
- Recommended: arrive the day before and stay overnight at the base
- Carpooling: we coordinate on request
- Accommodation with breakfast: settled directly with the guesthouse (double room approx. €80–90 per night)
Canyoning Ticino (multi-day trip, southern Switzerland)
The Ticino trip starts right in the canton of Ticino – the journey from Salzburg takes around 5–6 hours depending on the base. You'll get the details with your booking confirmation.
What if you don't have a car?
For the Almbachklamm and Strubklamm we try, on request, to match you up with other participants in a carpool. Just let us know when booking. For the multi-day trips to Friuli and Ticino we definitely recommend carpooling or a rental car – arriving by train is possible but very cumbersome.
What to bring? A short checklist
- Swim trunks or swimsuit (keep them on under your clothes for the tour)
- Towel + dry change of clothes for after the tour
- Closed water shoes or old trainers (we can provide neoprene boots)
- Sunscreen + sunglasses (with a strap) for the approach hike
- Water bottle
- A small snack for after the tour (hunger guaranteed)
- Cash or card for tips or spontaneous extras
- Do NOT bring: valuables, jewellery or smartwatches into the gorge – everything stays safely in the car

Frequently asked questions
Where exactly is the meeting point?
You receive the exact meeting point (address + GPS coordinates) from us by email after the booking confirmation. We don't publish the meeting point because it varies by tour and start time.
What if I'm running late?
Please call us in good time if you are delayed. For short delays (5–10 minutes) we're happy to wait. For longer ones it gets tight, because other participants are joining the tour with you – in the worst case we have to start without you.
Where do I leave my things during the tour?
Everything not needed on the tour stays in the car. We recommend not bringing valuables, as the car usually sits at a publicly accessible hiking car park.
Are there changing rooms at the meeting point?
Most meeting points have no fixed changing rooms – we change at the car (swimwear underneath, clothes on top for the walk-in). Some spots have toilets – we'll let you know with the meeting-point confirmation.
Can I move straight on to other activities after the tour?
Sure. But plan a 1-hour buffer between the end of the tour and your next activity – changing, a short rest and the drive back to Salzburg. Popular follow-ups: a stroll through Salzburg, a swim in Lake Fuschl/Lake Wolfgang or lunch by the lake.
