Instead of a blanket answer, here’s an honest overview: what a reputable canyoning tour in Austria realistically costs, what must be included in the price, and what you should look out for when comparing providers.
Price range for canyoning in Salzburg & Upper Austria
A reputable half-day canyoning tour with a state-certified guide and full equipment costs on average between €70 and €105 per person in Austria. Prices vary depending on:
- Difficulty and length of the tour – a 4-hour tour with abseils costs more than a 2-hour beginner tour
- Group size – private tours (1–3 people) are more expensive per head; more than 8 is not reputable
- Region and travel – remote gorges have higher logistics costs
- Season – peak season (July/August) tends to be slightly more expensive than the early and late season

What MUST be included in the price
With reputable Austrian canyoning providers, the following should always be included in the tour price:
- State-certified canyoning guide – a legal requirement in Austria
- Complete personal protective equipment: wetsuit (5 mm or thicker), helmet, climbing harness
- Canyoning shoes and neoprene socks – some providers charge extra, with us they’re included in the tour price
- Technical equipment: ropes, carabiners, figure-eight descender, belay systems
- Insurance for tour risks
- Briefing before the tour
What is NOT included – and that’s fair too
- Travel to the meeting point – you organise that yourself
- Food and drink – most providers, including us, don’t serve food during the tour
- Photos / action videos – on request, often at extra cost
What should you look out for when comparing providers?
Price alone isn’t the right criterion. These 5 points matter more:
- Is the guide state-certified? Anyone charging less than the market average often saves on staff – the wrong place to cut corners when it comes to safety.
- How up to date is the safety equipment? Helmets, harnesses and ropes have an expiry date. Ask explicitly.
- How big are the groups? More than 8 people per guide is a safety risk in a narrow gorge.
- How are weather and water levels handled? Reputable providers do cancel tours – without a cancellation fee for customers.
- Are there reviews or recommendations? Google reviews and personal recommendations say more than any advertising claim.
Money-saving tips for canyoning tours
- Group discounts: for 6 or more people we’re happy to agree a group price – ideal for clubs, company team events or birthdays
- Early and late season: May/June and September are quieter – sometimes with special rates
- Multi-day packages to Friuli or Ticino: often cheaper per day than a single day closer to home
- Vouchers as a gift: a “canyoning” experience as a gift is usually cheaper than standard day-trip vouchers

Frequently asked questions
Do I get my money back if the tour is cancelled due to the weather?
Yes. If we cancel because of the weather, you get either a free alternative date or a full refund – with no cancellation fee.
How much does a private tour cost?
Private tours (1–3 people) are slightly more expensive per head than group tours, because the guide is there just for you. Specific prices on request – we calculate fairly based on the tour and number of people.
Can I pay by card?
We accept cash and bank transfer. Card payment on site is currently not possible – ask us beforehand if that's a problem.
Are children cheaper?
Yes, for tours from age 10 (e.g. the Almbachklamm) we offer reduced prices for children. Ask us – we'll be happy to put together a family offer for you.
How far in advance do I need to book?
In peak season (July/August) we recommend booking at least 1–2 weeks ahead. In the early and late season, 3–5 days is often enough. Last-minute requests are welcome – we'll try to find a date.
