Instead of a one-size-fits-all answer, here is an honest overview: what a reputable canyoning tour in Austria realistically costs, what must be included in the price, and what to look out for when comparing providers.
Price range for canyoning in Salzburg & Upper Austria
A reputable half-day canyoning tour with a state-certified guide and complete equipment costs on average between €70 and €105 per person in Austria. Variations come from:
- Difficulty and duration of the tour – a 4-hour tour with abseiling sections costs more than a 2-hour beginner tour
- Group size – private tours (1–3 people) cost more per head; more than 8 per guide is not reputable
- Region and access – remote gorges come with higher logistics costs
- Season – peak season (July/August) tends to be slightly higher than early and late season

What MUST be included in the price
With reputable Austrian canyoning providers, the following should always be included in the tour price:
- State-certified canyoning guide – a legal requirement in Austria
- Complete personal protective equipment: wetsuit (5 mm and up), helmet, climbing harness
- Technical equipment: ropes, carabiners, figure-eight descender, belay systems
- Insurance for tour risks
- Briefing before the tour
What is NOT included – and that's fair, too
- Travel to the meeting point – you organise that yourself
- Food and drink – most providers, including us, don't serve refreshments during the tour
- Water shoes / neoprene shoes – can often be rented for a small fee; many people bring old trainers
- Photos / action videos – on request, often for an extra charge
What should you look for when comparing providers?
Price alone is not the right criterion. These 5 points matter more:
- Is the guide state-certified? Anyone offering below the market average often saves on staff – the wrong place to cut corners when it comes to safety.
- How up to date is the safety equipment? Helmets, harnesses and ropes have an expiry date. Ask explicitly.
- How big are the groups? More than 8 people per guide is a safety risk in a narrow gorge.
- How are weather and water levels handled? Reputable providers also cancel tours – with no cancellation fee for customers.
- Are there reviews or recommendations? Google reviews and personal recommendations say more than any advertising claim.

- Group discounts: From 6 people we're happy to negotiate a group price – ideal for clubs, corporate team events or birthdays
- Early and late season: May/June and September are quieter – sometimes with preferential rates
- Multi-day packages to Friaul or Tessin: per day often cheaper than a single day at home
- Vouchers as a gift: the gifted experience of canyoning is usually cheaper than standard day-trip vouchers

Do I get my money back if the tour is cancelled due to weather?
Yes. If we cancel due to weather, you either get a free replacement date or a full refund – with no cancellation fee.
How much does a private tour cost?
Private tours (1–3 people) cost a little more per head than group tours, because the guide is there just for you. Specific prices on request – we calculate fairly based on tour and group size.
Can I pay by card?
We accept cash and bank transfer. Card payment on site is currently not possible – ask us in advance if that's a problem.
Are children cheaper?
Yes, for tours from age 10 (e.g. the Almbachklamm) we offer reduced children's prices. Just ask – we're happy to put together a family offer.
How far in advance do I need to book?
In peak season (July/August) we recommend at least 1–2 weeks' lead time. In the early and late season, 3–5 days are often enough. Spontaneous requests are welcome – we'll try to find a date.
